- To develop competent and confident users of MTL in both speech and writing
- To inculcate good reading habits in pupils and develop them into independent and life-long learners
- To nurture our pupils to think creatively and seek innovative solutions to problems.
- To nurture their empathy and sensitivity to, and concern for, fellowmen and contribute to the development of the values desirable for living in a multi-racial and multi-cultural world
FOCUS
The Mother Tongue Department focuses on imparting knowledge of the Mother Tongue languages as well as raising cultural awareness through its rich curriculum. The Chinese, Malay and Tamil Language units function as one department, often drawing on one another’s expertise to provide the students with a strong foundation in Mother Tongue.
Over the years, the department has seen a vast improvement in the academic grades of the students in the national examinations. In addition, the department also organises enrichment programme such Creative Writing Worshop, Speech and Drama Workshop, learning Journey and immersion programmes to China and Indonesia. It is hoped that through these programmes, students will gain invaluable experiences with the language and emerge as confident Chinese, Malay or Tamil language users.
