SMILE@Bartley - Student Mentoring through Innovative Learning Experiences

SMILE @ Bartley aims to build in the pupils, a heightened awareness of themselves, a belief in themselves and personal mastery through LO. This is achieved through a process of self-discovery. Through self-discovery, the pupil will realise he is the one setting the limiting belief about himself and he is able to make things happen for himself if he chooses. He can then begin on his journey of personal mastery – through reflection of his own mental model, cultivation of the right attitude and instilling discipline – to make his dream come true. He will also be able to leverage on team learning to stretch himself further.

Personal Mastery, Mental Model and Team Learning are the main tenets in this programme. This is a journey inward – a journey of self-discovery – for each pupil. This is not easy as people tend to look outward to the more obvious around, to see what can be done by others to make things happen for them instead of what they can do for themselves.

In this journey, the students are supported by their teachers who acted as their mentors. This small group mentorship program where the close interaction allows an indepth understanding of the challenges that students face in terms of cognition, emotional, social and physical aspects as a young individual. The building of rapport and role models for the students are especially important in this time to enable them to have emotional support to achieve their potential.
